Assistant General Manager

SUMMARY:

Assistant General Manager (AGM) partners with the Area General Manager to oversee all aspects of hotel operations, financial performance, and team development. This role provides day-to-day operational leadership across all departments, acts as General Manager in the GM’s absence, and is a critical member of the property’s executive team. The AGM is a driven, versatile hospitality leader who leads by example, develops talent at all levels, and is committed to delivering exceptional results for guests, associates, and ownership.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations & Property Leadership

·        Partner with the Area General Manager to oversee all hotel departments including Rooms, Food & Beverage (where applicable), Sales, Housekeeping, and Engineering.

·        Assume full responsibility for hotel operations in the Area General Manager’s absence.

·        Lead daily stand-ups, department head meetings, and operational debriefs to align the team on priorities and performance.

·        Monitor SOPs across all departments and drive accountability for consistent execution of brand and M&R standards.

·        Respond to and resolve elevated guest complaints and operational issues with urgency and professionalism.

 Financial Performance

•      Assist in the development and management of the property’s annual operating budget and capital plan.

•      Monitor departmental P&L performance, labor productivity, and expense management against targets.

•      Identify and execute revenue opportunities across Rooms, ancillary services, and cost-saving initiatives.

•      Prepare and present operational and financial performance reports to the Area General Manager and ownership as required. 

Team Development & Culture

•      Lead, coach, and develop department heads and supervisors in alignment with M&R’s leadership expectations.

•      Partner with People & Culture on recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning.

•      Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement across all associate levels.

•      Champion M&R training initiatives and brand certification programs for department heads and front-line staff.

Guest Experience & Brand Compliance

•      Ensure all brand franchise standards and M&R operating protocols are consistently met across all departments.

•      Monitor guest satisfaction metrics and lead cross-departmental action planning to drive improvements.

•      Build relationships with key guests, corporate accounts, and loyalty members to strengthen the hotel’s reputation.

•      Ensure the property is always audit-ready for brand quality assurance inspections.

Administrative & Compliance

•      Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations including labor law, health and safety, and licensing.

•      Oversee vendor and contract management in coordination with the General Manager.

•      Manage key operational systems and technology platforms across the property.

Physical Requirements

This role requires regular mobility throughout the property, the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. Must be available for a variable schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive hotel operations experience, with at least 2–3 years at a department head or above level.
  • Multi-brand or multi-property experience strongly preferred (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Choice, Wyndham familiarity a plus).
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, P&L accountability, and financial reporting.

  • Proven operational leadership with a track record of delivering results across multiple departments simultaneously.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze data and translate insights into action.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to lead diverse, multi-generational teams.
  • Proficiency in hotel technology platforms (PMS, POS, revenue management systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
